Story
You may be wondering what the #700 challenge is? Well, the Dorothy House catchment area is 700sq miles so its an easy number to remember but a challenging number of things to commit to doing. Thats the idea! I'm taking on the Dorothy House #700 Challenge to raise vital funds for their work and also have some fun along the way.Dorothy House provides care to people with a life-limiting illness, and their families and carers. All care is free of charge and is available wherever and whenever it is needed. All teams work together to ensure that those they support can live well and die well. The hospice believes that death is a part of life and that everybody should receive outstanding palliative and end of life care. By supporting me to do my #700 Challenge, you are helping to directly support the work of this vital charity, and enables them to be there for people when it really matters most.
Having worked as a doctor for this charity for 12yrs and now recently retired, I have the opportunity to fulfil a dream to walk El Camino. This is a 760km pilgrimage walk from Southern France across Northern Spain to Santiago De Compostela; the presumed resting place of the sacred bones of the apostle St. James. It will take me 10 weeks to complete. I start the walk just after Easter 2020.
Dorothy House is a wonderful organisation to work for and the commitment and dedication I have witnessed from my colleagues over these several years, has just increased my enthusiasm for the charity. Our community has always helped us, and I always felt that I worked for, and was supported directly, by them.
My family needed their wonderful care, when my father was dying, and Hospice at Home stepped in at just the right moment. It made all the difference and gave the best possible experience for us all. Therefore, for personal reasons as well, the Hospice is very close to my heart.
Please support this 700 challenge!
