Story
It is that time of year again folks! Myself, Allan, my old man and this year Mick play four rounds of golf in a day. We do this in aid of Macmillan Cancer support, who provide information, care and support by those affected.
Usually there are some daft quips about the amount of golf balls we will lose and how bad at golf we are at this point. That will follow shortly, but this year my dad (who is also a member of this team) actually was on the receiving end of Macmillan's support so I have asked him to write a few words about his experience.
In February, 10 days after the death of my Father In Law, I was diagnosed with cancer. In March I underwent Surgery and Chemo. Thankfully it all seems to have gone well and I have my first check up in Jun (hopefully before the longest day).
During my period of illness, two information books arrived through the post from Macmillan Cancer Support. I did not request the books, nor did Macmillan ever make contact. The fact that Macmillan sent me the books, each detailing what I was going through and the process for recovery in a simple, easy to understand way, was a godsend.
When I start to wonder how much a book costs, and how often they must be sending these out to people in need it emphasised how much this charity needs our help. Obviously Macmilan do far more than this but the books alone must cost a fortune. If we can raise enough money for them to buy 100 books I would be over the moon
Please, pass the message on to as many people as possible and if you can, donate via the link below, in the meantime I will try and keep my side of the deal and play 4 rounds of golf in a single day – roll on 21 Jun !!
After hearing what they did just from the stage of diagnosis it has made us all the more determined to push on for another year. We are not naive to the cost of living crisis that everyone is feeling right now, but any little donation is so appreciated and helps those at a point where they need support and care the most.
I'm so proud of the fact we have raised approximately (I can't find exact totals of the first couple of years) £8380 since we began completing this challenge. Every single penny has gone directly to Macmillan Cancer support and including gift aid I believe we would be over the £10k mark!
Yet again we have been blown away by the courses waiving green fees for us, so many thanks to Aberdour GC, Dunnikier Park GC, Glenrothes GC and Ladybank GC for their generosity and hospitality in advance.
As always please purchase stakes in Callaway, srixon and Titleist, they're about to see a massive uplift in golf ball sales!
