Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, especially if you don't know me - and have picked up one of my crochet hearts 🧡
This year, on October 2nd, four years to the day that my father, Professor Ceri Peach, passed away (and two & a half years after I was first supposed to run it), I will finally run the London Marathon! Since then, I have been on the most incredible journey, in terms of running, and my relationship with my chosen charity Alzheimer’s Research UK.
I chose to run the 2020 London Marathon for ARUK, having watched Daddy suffer with Alzheimer's for several years – but as we know, 2020 was a year like no other, and the COVID pandemic put paid to the London Marathon taking place.
So instead, I ran 26.2 miles around the fields and roads surrounding my village. This became my ‘Lockdown’ or Godington Marathon. I raised nearly £5,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK - it was an achievement I am incredibly proud of. In October 2020, two years after Dad died, I ran the ‘Virtual London Marathon’ around Oxford – the city in which I was raised, and where my father spent his entire career as a Professor of Geography at Oxford University. Raising a further £5000!
This year, by October 2nd, I am hoping to raise a further £5,000 to achieve a total sum of £15,000.
Why sponsor me?
Dementia research is hugely underfunded - receiving 10 times less funding than other diseases. And yet the economic impact of dementia is greater than that of cancer and heart disease combined.
The diseases which cause Dementia, such as Alzheimer’s are physical diseases. With research and funding, there is no reason why they cannot be slowed, and eventually cured.
YOU can help! By sponsoring me, even just £1 or the price of a cup of coffee, your money can make a huge difference in aiding research in this incredibly important fight.
What will it mean to me?
I’m so grateful to have found running which has become a way of life for me now. It helped me overcome so much mentally and physically after Dad died. Each of the marathons I have run so far has been incredibly personal and unique. Along the way, through ARUK, I have made some wonderful and lifelong friends, each with their own story of Dementia that forms a special bond.
2022 is a big year for me! I turned 50 in April, and I am asking you to PLEASE help me in my determination to fight this disease and make breakthroughs possible.
Any amount you can offer will help – and will be so gratefully appreciated!
THANK YOU 🧡
