Story
5 years ago I was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. I had the surgery to remove the affected ovary and then went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy (all day visits) over the space of 6 months. Unfortunately in December 2018 I relapsed, leading me to have to again, go through chemotherapy though this time I was in for a week at a time over the space of 7 months. Fast forward to 2021, after nearly 2 years in remission I discovered the cancer had come back on the other ovary. Luckily it was caught early and I had the surgery to remove my final ovary. However this led me into early menopause, which has come with its own challenges. That’s just a small part of what my life has been like for the past five years. I’ve been told the cancer is more than likely to come back again and it leaves you feeling alone and not knowing what the future will hold.
Teens Unite are a charity, helping teens like me, connect with one another through events and activity stays. I’ve recently just been on their activity stay and it’s been so beneficial for me mentally, i learnt a lot and pushed myself and all i want to do now is give back.
Lots of love,
Caitlin xx
Teens Unite supports young people fighting cancer to live their best life, while others search for a cure. We inspire young people to recognise their potential now and in the future and empower them to live every moment to the full. When you're faced with cancer, plenty of people will tell you what you can't do, but we show these young people what they can do; not letting the 'c' word hold them back or define who they are.
