Story
In October 2022 I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in memory of my wonderful mum Mary Phelan.
The London Marathon will take place almost exactly a year after we sadly lost mum to cancer. I decided to fundraise for Sue Ryder because my mum and dad were lucky enough to receive support from the Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading during mum’s illness, and after she died. We were grateful for Sue Ryder’s expert medical advice, emotional support and bereavement support during an incredibly disorienting time.
The care that Sue Ryder offers to individuals and families across the country is vital. The charity supports people living with a terminal illness, a neurological condition or those who are coping with bereavement. Their doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can. The money raised here will therefore go towards helping other families to cope during very challenging times (which will make the achy legs worth it!).
Mum was a supporter of Sue Ryder throughout her life and she would often fundraise for the charity during her art shows and at other events. She also always enjoyed watching the London marathon and she was very supportive of those she knew who were running it, she also enjoyed running herself. When I saw the opportunity to sign up for a Sue Ryder charity place, I knew I had to apply.
Thank you very much for visiting this page and all donations, large and small, are very much appreciated.
