2 years ago I visited the beautiful country of Zambia along with Missio Scotland and 6 other students to support young people affected by ill health in their community. We spent time volunteering in Mother of Mercy Hospice, Chilanga, an organisation which provides palliative care services to the terminally and chronically ill in their community. As well as this, through the clinic, the hospice also offers Anti-Retro Viral drugs to sufferers of HIV/AIDS, as well as education and awareness about the issue to help best ensure prevention.
The experience was a once in a lifetime chance to come close to how the other half live. Not only was this a very spiritually enriching missionary trip but it also opened my eyes to the kindness and warm-heartedness of human beings. The people I met and memories I made will stay with me forever and I will always appreciate the many hugs and kisses from all the kids I crossed paths with.
In light of my experience in 2016, I have decided to take this opportunity to fundraise for Missio Scotland. On Sunday 17th June 2018, I will be completing (or trying to complete) Tough Mudder Scotland with all donations and sponsorship contributing to a great cause. I am fully aware of the amazing work and support Missio Scotland offer to organisations globally and all donations will be greatly appreciated, however large or small.
I will always treasure my time in Zambia and I believe it's important to never lose sight of the many amazing people I encountered during my 10 days there. Please take the time to have a look into the work of Missio Scotland and, more specifically, of Mother of Mercy Hospice to see just how far your donations will go!
Thank you,
Caitlin x
