Story
As I am sure you all know from my ridiculously long surname, obsession with football and often repetitive stories about the sunset in Ipanema, I was born and raised in Brazil. Growing up there, I was privileged enough to never have to worry about my next meal but the country's inequality made the problem of hunger around me quite evident. For context, around 33.1 million people in Brazil are living in hunger, which accounts for 15.5% of households in the country with a population of 213 million people.
When I moved to London in 2016, I thought I had left the problem of hunger behind me in the tropics. That is until this year when I found out that 4.7 million adults in London struggle to afford to eat every day and 2 million children are at risk of missing the next meal. Meanwhile, our food industry generates 3 million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year.
As you all know, the Felix Project is a fantastic charity working to tackle this issue. Their mission is simple - to take surplus food from their suppliers and deliver it to any charity that helps feed people. It's all nutritious and would otherwise go to waste. Not only that, but it helps fight food poverty and reduces costs for hardworking organizations. They believe no one should go hungry in London - and I think we can all agree with that.
After working in their kitchen preparing and sorting meals (see above for some fashionable pics), I decided to do more. As a result, I am running the Royal Park Half Marathon to raise money for The Felix Project. The dedication of the staff and volunteers was truly inspiring and if they managed to provide food for 30,000,000 million meals in 2021, I can definitely run (or drag) myself for 21.1km to help their cause.
You can help this amazing project by donating here. Every £10 donated to my page could enable the Felix Project to deliver 45 meals to hungry Londoners. Looking forward to your support!
Many thanks,
Caio
