Story
Coast to Coast (C2C) Whitehaven to Sunderland
With the success of last years ride and the reward we felt raising so much money for a worthy cause we’ve decided we’re going to do it all again this year. This time the challenge is ‘slightly’ harder. We’re going to be cycling Coast to Coast (C2C) in one day from Whitehaven to Sunderland on June 11th. 130 miles, 11,000+ ft of climbing, 11+hrs of cycling, this one’s not going to be easy!
This time, we’ve decided collectively to raise money for the Charities ‘Mind’ and ‘Pancreatic Cancer UK’.
Carls Auntie, Theresa Watson, sadly passed away last year after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. We wanted to raise money for a charity in honour of her life. Theresa had written in her will to give money to Pancreatic Cancer Uk to help others who had suffered just like her and her family. Pancreatic cancer UK support people affected by cancer and fund research for breakthrough treatments. I’m sure Theresa would be very proud of Carl and the team for taking on the challenge and raising money for a cause that was very close to her heart.
Mental health is so important, with more people suffering than you think. So many people carry on their day to day life putting on a brave face whilst suffering silently. By choosing Mind as our charity we want to help encourage people to talk more openly about their struggles and to realise that it’s ok to not be ok. If we can encourage just one person to open up and talk about their feelings and thoughts then we have done our job (this part is arguably more important than the money raised). If you’re reading this and you’re struggling, please remember you are not alone!
Leading up to the big ride, we’ll be sharing our own stories and personal experiences related to mental health.
Please donate, give what you can, and please share and spread the word. We want to reach out to as many people as possible!
This page is for donations to ‘Mind’. To donate to Pancreatic Cancer Uk head to the teams page where you can do so by donating to Carl Wymark.
