Story

Meet my incredible family – my dad, Todd Touchberry, his wife Jennifer, and my mom, Brandy Stevens. In August 2000, excitement filled the air as my parents anticipated my arrival. However, during a routine ultrasound, they received unexpected news – I was diagnosed in utero with hydrocephalus, along with several other brain abnormalities. Doctors gave a grim prognosis, suggesting termination, but my parents' love for me was unwavering. I've been defying the odds since the beginning.

My first brain surgery took place just two days after my birth, involving the insertion of a shunt to relieve the pressure on my brain. Over the years, I've faced numerous challenges, undergoing 19 surgeries, most before my 13th birthday. My parents have been my pillars of support.

So, why did my Dad drive a 100+ year old Model T across the country? And how did he break a touring record?

November 17, 2023, marked the beginning of an extraordinary expedition for our family. Our mission? To drive across the country in a century-old Model T Ford, a quest advocating for awareness and critical funding for the hydrocephalus community. Oh, and maybe my Dad drove #coast2coast4hydrocephalus for me, his daughter, who lives with hydrocephalus.

Did they achieve their ambitious goal? Absolutely! Defying odds, they accomplished the seemingly impossible, navigating from Hunting Island State Park, SC, to the shores of Huntington Beach, CA, in a record-breaking 12 days. Their cross-country trek wasn’t merely a physical feat; it showed resilience, determination, and confidence in our journey ahead.

The mission wasn’t just a road trip; it was an odyssey, aiming to raise awareness across the country and $10 per mile for the Hydrocephalus Association. Remarkably, our efforts, including trip expenses, have garnered over $30k, with the hope of raising more.

We need to find a cure, outside of brain surgery. Please consider making a life-changing donation today and follow our social media page for more events coming soon!
