Christiane’s Sari Hill Walk Challenge for Nepal
On Saturday the 23rd, May 2015 I am going to walk up Conic Hill (1,184 feet) in a sari and hope to raise money for Nepal. (Walking in a sari is a challenge for me at the best of times)
For 36 years I have been friends with Bharat, a Nepali travel agent, and his family in Kathmandu. He worked in my father’s business in Frankfurt and I worked in his agency in Kathmandu – we are more than friends – we are brother and sister and his family is my Nepali family, as my family is theirs.
Shortly after the earthquake we tried to contact Bharat’s daughter and were relieved when she answered through facebook. The whole family was alright and they were all outside because of the strong aftershocks.
But with more than 7,500 dead, only a couple of hospitals (which can hardly cope), 1.4 million in need of food aid and the country’s weak infrastructure in ruins, Nepal needs all the help possible.
I wanted to do something! I am not sporty or a daredevil. I can’t run marathons or do bungee jumping, I could bake cake… but I tried to think of something where I could reach more people and have now set up a “Just Giving” and a facebook site and hope to raise money for Nepal with my Hill Walk. Please give as much or as little as you can afford, every £ or € counts.
Thank you
