Story
Goyt Valley Christian Aid walk on 4th September 2021
On Saturday 4th September, members of the Buxton and area Christian community will be enjoying time together in the Goyt Valley, in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It will be a chance to talk, while walking along, and to reflect on how the last 18 months has been, not just for us, but for our brothers and sisters across the world. Our thoughts will also be with the people of Afghanistan and the neighbouring countries who will be receiving Afghan refugees.
We have planned three routes – from a wheel along the dam and back for those using scooters (the mobility kind and the ones favoured by the under 10s), to a challenging six mile hike for experienced hill walkers. Each will focus on the reservoirs, enabling us to think about the importance of clean drinking water, which was one of the themes of this year’s Christian Aid Week. The two longer routes cover the same ground for the first couple of miles, so all walkers can start off together. Christian Aid is working with partners on the ground in Kenya to build earth dams to provide access to clean water for those affected by drought. The impact of climate change – floods, hurricanes, droughts – is greatest on the world’s poorest.
To join us on 4th September, please register interest by contacting Kate MacLean, Christian Aid coordinator at Buxton Methodist Church, by emailing director@creative-heritage.net or phoning / texting 07753 896 848. More information about timing, parking and what to bring with you will then be provided.
Thank you for sponsoring our walkers and for helping the wonderful work of Christian Aid, in its 75th anniversary year.
