Ummah Welfare Trust was founded to challenge the huge poverty and injustice prevalent in the Ummah today. Inspired by the Islamic teachings of empathy and selflessness, the charity strives to support and uplift the impoverished through the beautiful act of charity.

Story

The deteriorating situation for the Rohingya in Burma has pushed Ummah Welfare Trust to launch a new appeal on their behalf.

Recent decades have been difficult for Muslims in Burma. Residing under a military junta, many endure a life of misery and abject poverty

The 'Rohingya' ethnic group in paticular have suffered. Seen as foreigners, they are denied freedom of movement, education, health treatment and even the opportunity to marry.

The worsening repression means that around one and a half million Muslims have fled to neighbouring countries, where sadly however their lives have still not improved.

Ummah Welfare Trust has been working in Burma for 10 years. The charity has rebuilt masjids and madrassahs; constructed homes; sponsored orphans and widows; installed hand pumps; and regularly distributed food provisions.

The charity currently runs an orphanage where both students and teachers are sponsored

  • The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
'Shall I not tell you about the people of Paradise? Every weak and oppressed one. Shall I not tell you about the people of Hell? Every harsh, haughty and arrogant one.'
(Sunan Ibn Majah)
