Story
My name is Scott and I am a local Firefighter at Burgess Hill Fire Station. At the start of this year, I set myself a goal that I wanted to organise a charity event so I could raise money and awareness for charities that have had a positive impact on my life. Covid-19 put this all on pause for a while, but thankfully not permanently and I’m now back to planning and organising! I wanted to come up with an event that would challenge myself both mentally and physically, whilst combining it with something that I enjoy. I also wanted to involve my colleagues that I work with where I could, and this is what we’ve come up with:
The Challenge is to cycle from Lands End to Jon O Groats in just 10 days, which will be a gruelling distance of 1050 miles. Our first day of cycling is 5th September meaning our last day will be 14th September.
Myself and Shaun, my Watch Manager at Burgess Hill, will be completing the full distance on our bikes and we will be joined by 2 of our colleagues, Martin and Matt, who will be playing vital support roles co-ordinating the trip along the way from accommodation to puncture repairs! They will also both be bringing their bikes and joining us for sections of the route along the way for some much needed support and encouragement.
The two Charities we would like to raise money for have been carefully chosen and both hold great value to us all; The Firefighters Charity and Kids Cancer Charity. Please check out their links below to find out more about the great work these charities do!

As you can imagine, there are some cost implications in arranging such an event. The fire service are kindly donating us the service mini bus for the trip, which Martin and Matt will be driving for us, but the fuel for the trip will not be cheap! There is also cost implications with accommodation we will require and the promotional cycling jerseys we will soon be getting made.
We would appreciate any donations for the 2 charities and if you’re able to help at all through sponsorship, please get in touch directly and we can discuss options with you. This event will be heavily promoted and publicised through many social media platforms by the Fire Service and radio stations, so we would be able to promote a business or similar along the way.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read our bio and please see the link below to donate.
