Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Diagnosed the day before my 41st Birthday with a rare form of abdominal Cancer called PMP (Pseudomyxoma Peritonea), I was referred to The Christie Hospital in Manchester where I was told that without a major operation (including having heated chemotherapy washed around my abdomen), I had less than 4 years to live. During the hers that followed, one of the major sources of help and support I found was from the UK Charity Pseudomyxoma Survivor. A small charity set up by a fellow sufferer who works tirelessly to raise awareness of this rare Cancer and to support those suffering from it.
After diagnosis I underwent major surgery resulting in scar from crotch to breastbone, and I was struggling for fitness again. A recurrence 18 months later with more aggressive Cancer cells involved saw me undergoing further surgery including the removal of most of the right side of my abdominal muscles and having a pad and mesh sewn in to replace them. More recovery...
But recover I have, and 2014 saw me over 7 years past my initial diagnosis, and my incurable Cancer again returned. The surgery I underwent in January removed the tumour, and I now have to watch and wait on the next scan. This year I passed 8 years post diagnosis. My survival thus far is, I'm certain, due in no small part to my running and fitness, and so I plan to Run to the Castle in August to raise money for this excellent small Charity who support so many fellow sufferers of this rare Cancer and their carers.
Please help me to help them?
