Around the world, The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support to 1.5 million men and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat. Piracy, shipwreck, abandonment and separation from loved ones are just a few of the difficulties merchant seafarers face.
Covid-19 has added to the already challenging circumstances. Seafarers face isolation, fatigue, and prolonged periods away from home, approximately 20% have contemplated suicide or self-harm, according to a recent Yale University study. At this challenging time, it is even more important to highlight the plight of seafarers worldwide and to support them through this crisis.
