Background

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

In summer 2018, together, as a group of friends, we (Shukr Reminders) decided we would jointly work towards multiple projects for the sake of Allah and to leave an impacting legacy.

For our first project, we wanted to build a house of Allah - to build a masjid in Africa. This our biggest project yet and insha-Allah the start of many to come.

It all started from an evening out talking about finances with a group of friends, we discovered each person had multiple direct debits, examples included, utility bills, phone contracts, gym memberships (in some cases multiple), cinema, and various regular payments. However, we noticed we did not have a common regular setup for charitable donations.

Since then we every month set aside an amount in which we hoped to accumulate to a significant amount to physically start a project. Until Ramadan this year (2019), we have not sought funds outside of the group, however, we wanted to reach out to a wider community and especially reach out to those that wished to contribute, so they may also benefit and take inspiration.

A masjid is the epicenter of any Muslim community. It not only provides a place for its worshippers to pray, it so serves as a hub for educational programmes and other everyday services for the wider community. A masjid in the community helps people, young and old, to learn more about Islam, nurturing their spiritual development, and also inviting others to the beauty of Islam.

As a group, this project is very close to our hearts and we intend to see this project through to the end. We aim to fly out and help with the building of the masjid ourselves and insha'Allah we will keep you updated so you too can feel as close to this project as we are.  Furthermore, we hope this inspires you to do the same or similar with your friends.

Please note 100% of all donations will go towards the project. We will cover our own costs with visiting the site.

The location has been confirmed, Dago a village in the County of Homa Bay, Kenya. The size of the masjid is expected to be big enough to cater for 100 people.

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said - "Whoever constructs a masjid for Allah, Allah will construct a house for him in Paradise". (Bukhari)

03/12/2019 UPDATE: Raised Target £11,000!  We have increased the overall target to £11k.  Currently the area has no access to electricity, as such we have decided to provide Solar Panels for the Mosque in order to be self sustainable.  Covering the roof with solar panel will help to power the mosque.
