Lands End to John O'Groats - Alzheimer's Society 'United against Dementia'

Ride Across Britain 2022 · 10 September 2022 to 18 September 2022 ·
In September 2022 over 9 epic days, I will be cycling across Britain from Lands End to John O'Groats covering 980 miles of the most beautiful and scenic landscapes accessible on two wheels.
Each night will be spent sleeping in a tent before an early start the following morning for another 100+ gruelling miles in all weather conditions.
Why am I doing this?
It is not widely known but Dementia is the UKs biggest killer with someone developing dementia every three minutes.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity who campaign for change, fund research to find a cure and support people living with dementia.
Why is it personal to me?
My mother was diagnosed with dementia and in June last year she was placed in a care home as she now requires 24 hour round the clock care that unfortunately my father nor us as a family can provide. In the last 12 months we have had to watch her deteriorate and there has been nothing we could do to prevent it.
There are occasions after 53 years of marriage my mother does not recognise my father which is heartbreaking to see and I can not even imagine what that must feel like from a partners point of view.
It breaks my heart to think she will potentially not see my daughter grow up, get married, celebrate achievements in her life and enjoy all the things a grandparent and granddaughter should.
In my 48 years, it is only recently I have seen my father cry and it was then I knew I had to do something to try and help others suffering from dementia and their families.
The exact causes are not known, but what is known is there is currently no cure. Alzheimers disease is the most common cause of dementia in the UK.
Alzheimer's disease is a life limiting progressive condition affecting multiple brain functions, which means the symptoms develop gradually over many years and eventually become more severe, in a lot of cases ending in death.
Your donations can help fund vital research with the ultimate goal being to improve care for people with dementia today and finding a cure for tomorrow.
Please donate what you can. Every penny makes a difference.
Thank you for your support, it means the world to me and many other families alike.
