Story
In August of 2020 I was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Following successful surgery, the initial tumour was removed, and I was transferred to the care of Weston Park Hospital where I underwent 6 months of chemotherapy. All seemed to be going well until August of this year when scans showed that the cancer had recurred. Although this was devastating news the silver lining is that I still feel healthy, so I plan to do as much as possible.
This is why I’ve chosen to spend the first week of October 2021 riding my bike all over the North of England, tackling a few challenging climbs along the way. All in all, it’s just over 1100km (which explains my funding target) and includes over 19km of elevation gain.
No doubt it’s going to be a tough week but fortunately I won’t be doing it alone. My brother George will be joining me, and my parents will be providing support from the car, with zero sticky bottles 😉
I have chosen to raise money for Weston Park Cancer Charity as the hospital has provided an excellent service during my treatment. I am not the first in my family to be diagnosed and experience the awful consequences this disease brings. Charities like Weston Park do incredible work supporting patients and families whilst also contributing to vital research.
