Story
I am taking part in the 'Walk the Wight Your Way' in memory of my colleague, Jeni. Jeni worked in the office at Quay Arts and supported me greatly whilst I was a graduate working in my first position at Quay Arts as the 'Creative Apprentice'.
Jeni always wore a positively bright fuchsia pink as her favourite colour, which gave her the nickname ' Pink Jeni'. Her infectious laugh, her creativity (most of us have a piece of the beautiful silver jewellery she made) and her passion for enabling creativity in others, especially children and young people. She encouraged me to give my all and to come up with creative ideas for events and art workshops, thankfully here I am now with a vast array of events management experience.
Jeni sadly suffered from motor neurone disease and received support from the Mountbatten Nurses throughout her illness and sadly passed away in March 2020.
Sadly because of the outbreak in coronavirus, the team at Quay Arts were unable to celebrate Jeni's life achievements in the way we had planned. As a way to give a little something back and to stay positive during this time, I am taking part in the 'Walk the Wight your Way' in memory of Jeni and to support Mountbatten during this difficult time.
I have set myself the target of the full 26 miles to walk by the end of April. I have also started the 'Couch Potato to 5K' challenge which I aim to be able to run 5k in 9/10 weeks. I have never enjoyed running that much and have given up a few times on this before but I want to stick with it this time!
I understand that everyone is being affected by the coronavirus, so please just give what you can and together we can make a real difference.
