Story
My father, Maj Robin Parry MC served with 2/5th Royal Gurkha Rifles in the Burma campaign. He was at the bridge at Sittang and then at the Sly bridge at Pegu. He was later involved in the fighting at Basha hill on the Tiddim Road as part of the Imphal campaign. He was wounded twice.
My maternal grandfather, Brig Gordon Painter DSO commanded 22nd Indian Brigade in the fight for Malaya, was captured at Jahore and imprisoned in Singapore and then Manchuria.
Both my father and grandfather came home but lived with the scars of war for the rest of their lives.
I want to cycle in their memories to raise funds to support those who serve and carry the scars of todays battles.
Together with a team from H4H that includes some of our Band of Brothers who have been affected by their service, we will ride some 350km along the notorious Thai/Burma railway, including the bridge over the river Kwai and Hellfire Pass, before cycling on to Sittang and Pegu to pay our respects to those who did not return.
