Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After surviving cycling the C2C route in 2017, in September 2018 I will be taking part in Transaid’s Cycle Zambia challenge, cycling a 490 kilometre ride from Lusaka to Victoria Falls. Your generous contribution will support Transaid’s vital work in Africa.
About Transaid
Transaid is an international development organisation that transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport; empowering people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.
- Transaid's Access to Healthcare programme provides means of transport for health workers to visit pregnant and newly delivered women in rural communities as well as supporting ETS (Emergency Transport Scheme) drivers and equipment with bicycle powered stretchers which can transport them to a clinic in an emergency.
- Transaid's Road Safety programme is helping to provide training for passenger and goods vehicle drivers across Africa, helping to reduce road deaths (the third biggest killer in Africa after HIV/AIDS and Malaria).
After visiting one of Transaid's programmes in the capital Lusaka, we will be undertaking a 490 kilometre ride over 5 days, taking on dirt tracks, across undulating terrain, passing through tiny villages and open bush, finishing at Victoria Falls. We will be camping and staying in lodges along the way so I don't expect to get much sleep wondering what is walking round outside the tent!
Before then, I will be stepping up my training programme and participating in a few sportives and multiple day trips to get my fitness to the level it will need to be to survive the challenge on very different terrain and on a mountain bike. As the average historical temperature is 31C, I hope we have a hot summer too!
