Story
On 30th January 2021 we lost our Mum, Jo Newton after a 5 month battle with Ovarian cancer. Our Mum touched so many people's lives as she took such a keen interest in everyone she met. She spent her life caring for others and spent much of her time volunteering in a local school and in the Nightingale Macmillan unit in Derby.
It came as a huge shock to our family and Mum's friends when she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in September. She had always been so full of energy but was taken from us far too soon.
A woman in the UK dies from ovarian cancer every 2 hours and it is sometimes called the silent killer as 50% of cases are diagnosed at a late stage. Ovarian cancer action are campaigning to increase awareness and improve the understanding of symptoms among the public and GPs. Since 2006, Ovarian cancer action have funded £12.3 million of research projects and have opened the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre which is Europe's first centre dedicated to ovarian cancer research.
We would really appreciate any donations which could help to increase early diagnosis and hopefully prevent families from suffering the devastating loss that we have.
Thanks so much
Gemma and Bruce
