Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, every penny raised goes towards raising vital funds for the Brain Research Trust.
I am running the London Marathon for my Dad, Nigel Kent. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2014. Following a biopsy the tumour was confirmed as a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme. My Dad undergone 1st line radio and chemotherapy, but this was unsuccessful in reducing the growth of the tumour. My Dad followed this up with 2nd line Kemo (PCV). It was believed to be having a positive impact but days after this news, he took a downward turn where he fractured his lower spine in 4 places due to being on steroids for a long period of time. This caused him horrendous pain and discomfort. The Oncology consultants confirmed shortly after that the PCV Kemo wasn't helping and that the tumour had spread to other parts of his brain. He was told at the time he'd be receiving no further treatment for the tumour as he is too weak for this. Shortly after he was home based on a hospital bed on a syringe driver to be sedated. This is where he suffered the 'death rattle'. Typically this would only last 48hours but this lasted for the best part of 5-8days as we believe he was waiting for the birth of his grand daughter who he died one day after. The mind is an incredible thing. May he Rest In Peace!
My Dad has always been an inspiration to me and has taught me a lot about the type of man, husband and father I want to be. My Dad faced his toughest challenge yet head on, and I wanted to challenge myself and support a cause that is close to our hearts.
