Story
Bristol Wanderers are a charity rugby team formed in 2014.
Through charity rugby games, sports, golf days and more, the team have given themselves a fundraising target of £10.000 to raise per year.
The ambition is to raise money for a different Bristol based children’s charity’s each year.
Bristol Wanderers are made up from ex-international, ex professional and local rugby players.
This year we are excited to be raising funds for Gympanzees.
Their mission is to deliver multiple fully inclusive leisure facilities that are easily accessible for disabled children, young people and their families; meeting exercise, play and social needs.
This is needed because there are one million disabled children and young people in the UK. 84% of families with a disabled child can’t access regular leisure and their health and well-being are suffering as a result. 72% suffer from mental health difficulties as a result of isolation.
Gympanzees vision is that every disabled child and young person in the UK can enjoy a life filled with exercise, play and friendship.
As ex rugby players, some of which are more than a few years past their peak, this hike up and down the 3 Peak within 24hrs will be problematic. Those injuries which were managed to a point of insignificance when we played, will be back with vengeance.
For some it will be at first sight of an incline for others the descent. At some point we’ll need to draw on the experiences we had on the rugby pitch to finish the task. The overarching drive to complete this challenge for all of us will be, of course the cause (Gympanzees) and your most graciously received support.
Thank you for reading this and a big Thank You for your generous gift.
