Story
Bristol to Kyiv
As you are all aware Russia invaded Ukraine last week. This
war has drastically impacted Ukrainian’s lives with hundreds of thousands of
displaced people forced to leave their homes and livelihoods to seek safety.
With fear of further escalation the humanitarian situation will only worsen and
wreak further havoc.
With this is mind, a group of us at Bristol University have
decided that by the end of the month we will run the combined equivalent distance
of Bristol to Kiev. As the crow flies this is 2309km. We will be running every
day of the month to achieve this goal. This challenge will be made harder as we
are unfit university students with unhealthy lifestyles, many whom haven’t run
since school! We will be tracking our overall distance on Strava and updating
you on the way. We will be running to raise money for the British Red Cross
Ukraine Crisis Appeal, a charity currently responding to existing and emerging
humanitarian needs in Ukraine.
A little bit on Red Cross – it is a charity currently
responding to the Ukraine appeal to provide food, medicine, clothing, shelter
and first aid training. It will also fund emergency shelters and repairs for
damaged homes. Finally the charity will provide cash assistance and other
support for refugees crossing into Romania and other European countries.
The group running is: Alex Nikopoulos , Archie Green, Archie
Nicholls, Ben Hoddinott, Charlie Bruce-Jones, Dom Gogarty, Emily Sewell, Ferdi Van Der Heiden, Freja Richdale, Izzy Richings, James Connolly, Johnny Murray, Jonny Haynes, Louie Charlton, Paddy Scudamore, Peter Colbourne and Tom Leeson.
Any donations, no matter how small, will be welcomed and
appreciated and go towards a great cause.
