Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in the name of Blue Marine Foundation for this all important cycle challenge: www.london-monaco.cc
Supporting Blue Marine Foundation is not only an honour for Bright Creativity but first and foremost a natural gesture of selflessness.
Considering the importance of our oceans in our everyday lives and how we need to be conscientious about our future and that of our children’s, by pushing our limits and giving our all, the London-Monaco riders along with their sponsors, are together on the right track to help make a small but impactful difference.
Cycling the London-Monaco ride, actively promoting and finding the right sponsors and partners for the cause, is my drop in the ocean of helping push the significance of the Blue Marine Foundation’s cause out to a larger audience be it in yachting, to press, keen riders, celebrity ambassadors as well as fellow Young Professional in Yachting members.
As an amateur cyclist, this is a challenge to start my goal of doing more activities to help raise funds towards valuable causes. I'll be joining the epic cyclists who start in London, on the last leg, 26th September 2017 to the end mark that is the Palace in Monaco.
The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is working to solve the crisis of overfishing by creating marine reserves –parts of the ocean that are protected so that fish and biodiversity can recover.
Over-fishing represents a major food security issue and has devastating consequences for the fragile biodiversity of our planet. Around 90% of global fish stocks are fully or over-exploited and around 90% of large fish are gone. The consequences are far-reaching, not only for the future of food for a growing global population, but because healthy oceans absorb half the CO2 we produce.
BLUE’s aim is to put 10% of the world’s oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030.
100% of funds raised from the event will go towards projects that will contribute significantly to ocean protection:
* Ascension island - help make it a marine protected area.
* Aeolian islands - build eco-moorings for sailing vessels so they don’t damage the sea grass beds when they anchor, engage local scientists to monitor and protect endangered marine species and introduce programmes to reduce the number of ‘ghost’ nets.
* Solent oyster restoration project - restore the once thriving native oyster to the Solent by adding a million oysters to wild sites.
