Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last November my cousin Richard Smith had a stroke. He was 40.

Following a brain scan, the neurological team at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire discovered Rich had a grade 4 brain tumour. He was told it was not terminal and was given an intensive course of chemotherapy, and physiotherapy to help him try and gain some mobility back in his paralysed right side.

Rich has a 2 year old daughter, and everything to live for - he was a fighter and continued to fight with every working muscle in his body.  However, in February of this year, he was given the news that the tumour had grown and was terminal, he was given 6 months to live. Sadly Richard passed away on the 17th July 2014.

Rich didn't want to die, his family and friends didn't want him to die. He wanted to see his daughter grow up, take her to school on her first day, see her when she graduated from University and give her away when she got married. But, tragically, none of this was meant to be.

And this is where I need your help. I cannot help Rich any further now, but I have to try and help others who may suffer like him. It is not fair that you have to watch someone you love and who loved life robbed of their personality and ultimately their life by this cruel disease.

I have therefore decided to take part in the 10k Twilight Walk in Warwick. Unfortunately Richard passed away just hours before I was due to visit him so I will be doing this for him.

I know we all get numerous requests for sponsorship, but if you could spare a donation, however small it really would be appreciated and help me to feel in some way that Rich's death won't be in vain.

Please, please forward this link on to any generous people you know. I need to raise as much money as I possibly can.

With love and gratitude,

Briget xxx
