Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Please check out my fundraising blog to check out how my fundraising is going - https://bridgetcoulterfundraising.wordpress.com/

Thanks very much for everyone's support, and your sponsorship for my Live Below the Line Challenge and the coffee morning.

Rother Valley 10K

This Sunday (19th April), I will be running the Rother Valley 10K.  All of your sponsorship will go towards the Raleigh ICS programme, which improves access to water and sanitation services in some of the world's poorest countries.

Live Below the Line

As some of you may already know, I am raising money for Raleigh (I am taking part in a Raleigh voluntary placement in India this summer).  My first fundraising goal is a sponsored live below the line challenge lasting 7 days.  Any donation will be a massive help, and will help Raleigh to continue fighting poverty in developing countries.

Please note: donations will not be used to fund my placement, and will instead go directly to Raleigh ICS to help fund projects in deprived communities.  My ICS placement is funded by the Department for International Development.

Between 22nd and 28th of February, I will be living on just £1 a day to raise money for Raleigh International, a charity that works in developing countries to improve access to water and sanitation services.

This means that I will be spending just £7 on food for 7 days.  I'll have to think much harder about shopping frugally and making my food go further.  The aim of this challenge is to gain a brief insight into the lives of people living in poverty (£1 per day or less).

Almost 20% of the world's population live in extreme poverty, and struggle to access food, clean water, healthcare, education and basic sanitation services.  Poverty is a major problem in India (my placement country).  One in three of the world's malnourished children lives in India, where 50% of childhood deaths are attributed to malnutrition.

My next challenge...

After my live below the line challenge, I will probably be taking part in a sponsored run (probably a 10K) later in spring.  Watch this space for updates about my next fundraising plans!

Raleigh International

This summer, I am taking part in a voluntary placement with the development charity Raleigh in India.  Raleigh is a sustainable development charity working in developing countries to improve the lives of those living in poverty.  Raleigh's main focus is on water and sanitation, and projects in India aim to improve access to clean water and sanitation services in rural communities.  Raleigh's projects engage with communities, educating people about positive hygiene practices and raising awareness of health issues.

This is all part of International Citizen Service (ICS), a government-funded scheme which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most.  ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help and, during my placement, I will be working alongside volunteers from India.  It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active global citizens, working together to achieve long-term impact.

I need to raise £800 for Raleigh (one of the respected development charities that deliver an ICS programme).  All of the money I raise will go to Raleigh ICS, and does not pay for my placement (ICS is funded by the Department for International Development).  The money I raise will allow Raleigh to continue to bring about positive change in the communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here http://raleighinternational.org/.  I will keep you posted on any fundraising activities using this page.  Any contribution will be much appreciated, and will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries.  Thanks for your support, it really means a lot!
