Story
I will soon be doing a 30-mile run in support of Women's Aid, an amazing charity which helps women who are experiencing domestic abuse.
My route will cover 30 miles in and around the Sheffield area.
Because it's in hilly Sheffield, I'll also be doing approximately 2,500ft of elevation gain along the way. For comparison, this is equivalent to the height of one of the larger mountains in the Lake District (e.g. Grisedale Pike near Keswick is around this height). So a lot of climb!
It’s further than I’ve ever run before, which is a bit scary, but all of your donations will help give me the moral support to conquer the miles (and the hills)!
Your donations will also help in the fight against domestic violence. Violence against women and girls has been in the news a lot lately and, as recent events have shown, many women do not feel safe – both in public and in their own homes. Every week 2 women are killed by a partner or ex-partner in England and Wales.
Women’s Aid supports women who are experiencing domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can include physical violence, sexual assault, coercive control, financial abuse and emotional abuse.
They run a live chat service offering one-to-one support to victims. They also coordinate a network of women’s refuges around the country, so that women (and their children) can escape from abusers and find a safe place to stay.
On top of this, they offer specialist training to professionals who work with victims of domestic abuse. They also run public campaigns against domestic abuse, and they campaign to improve the government’s response to violence against women and girls across housing, children’s services, health and social care, and the legal system.
Date is still tbc, but it will probably be within the next few weeks.
Please donate whatever you can, however small, to help end violence against women!
