Beirut Explosion - Help for children in Lebanon
Campaign by Save the Children (RCN England and Wales (213890) Scotland (SC039570))
At least 135 people have died, with thousands more injured and many children unaccounted for. We're on the ground preparing to support children and their families but we need your help.

Story

My family and I have been sadly witnessing the unfolding tragedy in Beirut following the massive explosion that took place on the 4th of August. Entire neighbourhoods have been wiped out and hundreds of thousands were made homeless in an instant. The explosion destroyed Lebanon's largest port - which will now make it harder to import food and other aid - as well as silos that contain the national grain reserve.

Lebanon has the highest number of refugees per capita in the world. One in four people in Lebanon is a refguee. A disfunctioning government, a collapsing economy, an electricity supply crisis, COVID-19 are just some of the things Lebanon has been going through over the past few months. This a humanitarian crisis unfolding in front of our eyes and we are just seeing the start of it.

So we want to do something to help out: Hashem, my 5 year old son, and Ibrahim, my 10 year old nephew, will run 10 lapses on Worcester Bridge, hence the Bridge of Hope name. My nieces and myself will be raising awareness and money to support the children in Beirut.

Save the Children Plea:  At least 100 people have died, with thousands more injured and many children unaccounted for. The numbers are likely to rise, even as rescue teams desperately work to get people out of the rubble. We're on the ground preparing to support children and their families but we need your help - donate now to help children facing emergencies like this around the world. Lebanon is already going through a severe economic crisis, with many families struggling just to put food on the table. And with a sharp spike in COVID cases, hospitals are already overwhelmed. No matter what the emergency, children suffer the most. They may be hurt, shocked and separated from their parents. Its vital that children and families get help to get back on their feet, and the physical and emotional protection they need.
