Update: 25/05/2020
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, it's brilliant to see how much has already been raised. These funds will go a long way in enabling Debra to support families with EB. I'm looking forward to actually running now.
As I outlined below, back in March I wasn't sure what events I'd be doing with the Covid crisis, but I wanted to make sure I did something to raise money and awareness for Debra, I didn't want this to stop me. When the Connnemarathon was cancelled in April, I had the idea to run a marathon around Malahide. I started training for it and when I received an email from Jimmy Fearon, the CEO of Debra outlining how the current crisis is hitting families with EB particularly hard, I knew now was the right time to do it.
So, on Friday June 5th, to celebrate my birthday, I’m going to run a marathon within my 5km radius. For the last number of weeks I’ve been practicing the route and I will basically be doing endless laps of Malahide going from my house on Yellow Walls Road, through Malahide Castle, as far as Seabury, Streamstown Lane, Scoil Iosa and Malahide United in each direction... a few times. I will post an update here with the route so you can see what this will look like and I'll give a rough estimate of when I will be at each section (all going to plan).
Anyone who is around Malahide, I'd love to see you on the route to give me a wave and laugh at me.
Thanks,
Brian.

Over the next few months I’ll be taking part in a few different events and challenges in aid of Debra Ireland. The plan was to start with the Connemarathon in April and finish with the Dublin Marathon in October, but this is obviously uncertain now. While I might not know exactly what they will be, I will still make sure to do a number of challenges, annoying everyone again with the aim of raising funds for Debra.
Debra often refers to EB as “the most painful and most heart-breaking disease you’ve never heard of”. Since hearing CEO Jimmy Fearon speak at the Debra Wicklow Challenge last year about the incredible work that Debra do I was really moved by it and wanted to help raise as much funds and awareness as possible.
I have this link to donate but I also encourage everyone to visit www.debraireland.org to learn more about EB and the work that Debra do to help families across Ireland.
Thank you to anyone that donates x
