Story
We are a group of parkrunners who also get together each Sunday for longer runs under the guise of the The Globe Trotters. Since 2014 we have been holding a run, along what was the front line during the Battle of the Somme, laying a wreath at the Thiepval Memorial to the missing at the finish. The run takes place as near to the 1st of July as possible and is in commemoration to all those who fought, were wounded and who lost their lives during the battle, particularly on that first day when the British Army suffered over 65,000 casualties, including over 19,000 fatalities. We run in their memory while also aiming to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund who do so much to support the RAF family in so many ways.
