Story
The 18th February 2013 was the worst day of my life. It was the day my brother Ian passed away, he was 50 years old. In April 2011 Ian was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform, one of the most common and aggressive brain tumours.
Ian was the bravest person I have ever known. He faced this terrible disease head on and cared more about how his family was dealing with it than himself.
Ian was more than my brother he was my best friend and ultimately my absolute hero. I can not put into words how much I miss him every day and do not want another person to have to lose their life to this brutal illness.
"Less than 1% of all the funds raised for research into cancer is devoted to brain tumour research, yet brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of our children and more people under the age of 40 die from brain tumours than from any other cancer."
I know times are hard and money is tight, so anything you can afford to donate to this wonderful cause will be greatly appreciated.
If you have read this far and you are still debating, here are a few facts which I hope will make your decision easier...
1) There are over 120 different types of brain tumours which makes effective treatment very complicated.
2) The cure rate for most brain tumours is significantly lower than that for most other types of cancer.
3) Brain tumours have recently overtaken leukaemia as the most common malignancy and cause of death in children.
4) Currently, brain tumours cannot be prevented because their cause is still unknown.
5) Lack of funding and research into the treatment of malignant brain tumours means survival rates are no better than they were 40 years ago.
Please dig deep and give all you can.
Thanks
