Story
Last November Patrick - the trust's very affable CEO, strolled into a teenager forum and asked Will ‘would your Dad like to run in our London Marathon team again?’. ‘Oh yes I’m sure he would - he really likes his running and I’m sure he’d do it again’ said Will.
The next day Patrick emailed me, recounting the conversation... I could hardly refuse could I??!?
Hence I am asking everyone I can to help me - somewhat sheepishly as it’s for the second year in a row, by sponsoring my marathonagain this year!
When our son William was age 4 we went through the horror of him being diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (RB - eye cancer). the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust were on hand at the point of diagnosis and supported us all throughout - how brilliant to have a charity that is there when families need it most, and it’s a privilege to run in their Marathon Team once more.
RB is extremely rare (50 cases a year in the UK) but that's still 1 diagnosis a week, it is still a potential killer and 50% of cases affect both eyes causing blindness and other potential longterm complications.
It has left Will blind in his left eye, but even now as a teenager with all of the heightened awareness that brings, the trust’s support staff are helping Will and all the other RB teenagers that they can, to live comfortably with the effects of RB.
