Story
Lesotho is a beautiful country in southern Africa with a rich history and culture. It also has the world's second highest prevalence of HIV (23.2%) and more than 160,000 children have been orphaned. This has had a devastating impact on family and community structures, and has dramatically held back the country’s economic development.
Kick4Life are a charity based in Lesotho who aim to change lives through health, education and gender programmes. To achieve this, they embrace the great passion for football in Lesotho to address these issues, helping young people to stay healthy, achieve their potential and contribute to the sustainable development of their country.
I have been involved with Kick4Life since 2008 when I fundraised and went on my first tour there. Since then I have been back several times and will again revisit the country in 2024 as part of their All Stars Football Tour programme. During the visit I will participate in HIV education classes with children, assist Kick4Life coaches and play football against local teams.
I will cover all the costs of the logistics of trip myself, so any money donated by you will go directly to the charity and help them in the amazing and vital work they do. Many charities are struggling, especially post-Covid so any donations you could graciously make would be gratefully received.
I think it's important to suffer for donations so I will be attempting an ultramarathon this year. Originally I was going to do the Longford Ultramarathon on August 27th, but I've had to move things back a bit due to physical issues so now I will be doing the Tollymore Trail Ultramarathon in County Down in November. That's 40 miles (or 64.5Km) which will be long day out!
Thanks for any kind donations!
