Story
After over 6 months of going to her GP with various symptoms and turned away, Breda was eventually rushed to St. Marys hospital when they realised that the allergic reaction the GP diagnosed was actually the sign of a serious blockage on her vena carva and could have killed her........................... if she hadn't have gone into hospital straight away she wouldn't be with us today.
That day in July 2013 she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which had already spread to her bones. The doctors at St.Mary's booked her in straight away for a stent to be put into the vein which would make it possible for the blood to continue to flow to her heart and keep her alive.
After trying two attempts of chemo for the cancer in August, the doctors found that the cancer was still spreading whilst on the chemo so had to take her off it. Which devastated our chances of some reduction in the cancer. Mum was then given the likely-hood of weeks/ a couple of months to live.
The doctors tried one week of radiotherapy which again appeared to not really change anything.
We always knew our mum was such a strong woman but her response to this and her attitude of never giving up completely amazed us
Mum continued to live with lung cancer for 12 months, 9 months of this were untreated. Sadly she passed away on 26th July 2014. Right until the end she remained very positive and always wanted to help others.
So now in mum's memory we would like to support others going through the same thing. We are fundraising for 'The Roy Caste lung cancer foundation' as its the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer. Alongside research they offer training courses and patient grants to those that need it.
We would be really grateful if you would be able to donate, no matter how small and help us support the fight to beat lung cancer.
Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for any sponsorship that you may be able to give.
