Story
This term the children in Reception have been learning all about superheroes.
During the first lockdown many of our children and families watched the determined plight of Sir Captain Tom who raised a huge £33 million pounds for the NHS! The children in school followed the progress Sir Captain Tom made, we were inspired to create a thank you NHS banner which we proudly displayed on the front gates of school and when the veteran turned 100 years old we made and sent him a beautiful birthday card.
Sadly this week Sir Captain Tom passed away.
We would like to honour the superhero that he is by doing a sponsored step week which we are calling, ‘Walk For Sir Captain Tom Week’. This sponsored walk will start on Friday 12th February and will finish on Friday 19th February. Our aim is to get active and raise money for The Captain Tom Foundation which supports the following charities; The Royal British Legion, Mind, Helen & Douglas House and Willen Hospice. We would like the families at Breakspear to monitor the steps they do in a day. This can be the whole day, an hour in the day or a period of time of your choice but we would like everyone stepping as much as possible to help raise as much money for The Captain Tom Foundation. You can set yourself a target of the amount of steps that you would like to achieve for the week or daily. Whatever your challenge, total the amount of steps taken by your child each day and fill in the table that is on your child’s Google classroom. Please keep us updated with your progress through pictures and videos that you can share on your child’s Google classroom.
Let’s honor this real life superhero by raising as much money as possible for such a worthy cause.
