Story

Hello Everyone,

**UPDATE** THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS DONATED SO FAR, I REALLY APPRECIATE THE GENEROSITY. I AM STARTING TO TRAIN NOW AND WILL CONTINUE TRAINING RIGHT UP UNTIL AUGUST. I'M GOING TO BE PUTTING UP A WEBSITE IN THE COMING MONTHS SO PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT ON THIS PAGE FOR THE WEB ADDRESS.

This year, from August 24th to September 1st, I will be trekking up the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro . I will be climbing not only to reach the summit, but also to raise money for the Regional Aids Initiative of South Africa (RAISA).

When I heard about the Kilimanjaro Challenge, a charity project set up by the VSO charity to raise money for African citizens who are affected by HIV/AIDS, I knew it was something that I MUST do. Much of what I have done charitably in the past has been on a small scale but upon hearing about RAISA I made the decision to stretch myself to do something more significant. This is the second year for the Challenge and I, along with 24 other Accenture employees, will climb Africa ’s biggest mountain. Our hopes are that our efforts will go a little way in raising desperately needed funding for one of Africa ’s biggest problems.

I know that not everyone can donate money to sponsor this cause of mine but I hope that some of you can and will. I am attempting to raise a total of $5400 in sponsorship for this trek. Please know that only a small portion of my sponsored funds will be used to offset the costs of the trek. I will be paying the majority of the costs of the trek out of my own pocket. Sponsoring me is surprisingly easy; all you have to do is click the “Sponsor Us Now” button up top and select an amount to donate. Once you’ve selected an amount you sign in, enter in your credit card information and then complete the transaction. I believe that sponsorship comes in many forms and that money is only one of those. I am looking to organize two fundraising events in the coming months and I welcome any ideas and help.

I will be putting up a website to chronicle my trip and on the site I will have a blog and photo album for those that are interested. In addition, on the site I will recognize all of those that sponsored my trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro .

Again, my trip is August 24th to September 1st and my goal is to raise $5,400. It is a big goal, but it is easily surmountable with help from my friends and family.

This is where your money will go:

  • £10 ($19): helps to support a VSO volunteer management specialist for a day
  • £25 ($45): helps provide a month's supply of anti-malaria tablets to keep a VSO volunteer healthy and working
  • £50 ($97): provides HIV and AIDS training for a VSO volunteer to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS in local communities
  • £100 ($194): helps support a VSO volunteer pediatrician for a month
  • £250 ($484): helps a VSO volunteer to train 20 local teachers in special teaching methods in order to support children with disabilities
  • £1000 ($1938): provides a small grant to one of VSO’s grassroots partners , helping them to improve services, such as training HIV / AIDS counselors to care for people in their homes

NOTE: All donations made on this site are in British Pounds. See below for example conversions or visit. http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=USD&to=GBP&submit=Convert

     $50 = £25

     $100 = £50

     $250 = £125

     $500 = £250

Many thanks for your support.
