Story
Our beautiful boy Stanley was born seriously ill in 2011, undergoing his first open heart surgery at 8 days old. In July of 2012 at the age of 18 months and while undergoing his 3rd open heart surgery, Stanley sadly died.
The day after Stanley died we had a knock on the door and standing in front of my wife and I were the EACH bereavement team, saying that we may need them and can they please help. Over the following months and years my wife and I received one to one counselling whenever we needed it, we attended group bereavement sessions giving us the chance to meet other families going through similar, and most importantly the chance to remember Stanley and talk about him. Even now, 9 years later, EACH are still there for us through annual memory days and other events helping us to keep Stanley's memory alive, and helping us as a family to be able to continue to move forward as best we can.
In 2016 I was fortunate to join EACH as a Trustee and have seen up close the incredible work they do to meet the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family through specialist nursing care, symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies and counselling, and of course end of life care.
As the only dedicated hospice for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, they really do provide a lifeline to families at the most difficult of times.
Incredibly over 80% of EACH's income comes via donations, with only a small amount from government funding. So without your generosity EACH would not exist, and because of that I am attempting to "run" the Cambridge 1/2 marathon in Stan's memory and to give back just a little to the charity that supported us, and supports so many families every day.
So if you can, please donate a few pounds or even more. I can't promise my time will be quick, or that I will even be able to run the entire amount! But I can promise that every pound you donate goes towards children and families at their most difficult times, and that every mile I will be thinking about and remembering my beautiful little boy.
