Story
Running the Lancaster Half Marathon on November 3rd, 2024, fills me with pride and purpose. I am not just lacing up my running shoes for the challenge, but to raise crucial funds for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, founded in memory of Sophie, is dedicated to creating respect and understanding for subcultures in our communities. Sophie was tragically attacked for her appearance, and the Foundation works tirelessly to prevent hate crimes like this through education and youth work. By supporting this foundation, we contribute to a world where diversity is celebrated, and everyone can express themselves freely without fear.
My journey to this half marathon hasn't been easy—I'm not a natural runner, to say the least! The lure of the pub has been swapped for the pavement, and my weekend lie-ins have become early morning runs. I’ve swapped my usual bar tabs for energy gels and my Netflix marathons for literal (half) marathons. Training has turned me into someone who actually owns running shorts (who knew?). My neighbours think I’m having a midlife crisis. Which I probably am. The road to the half marathon is paved with sobriety good intentions— blisters (and a large toe nail failing off!)
I invite you to join me on this journey, whether through donations, words of encouragement, or simply spreading the message of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Together, we can honour Sophie’s memory and Stamp Out Prejudice Hate Intolerance Everywhere.
