Story
Hi,
I have set up this page to help me raise money for the RNIB a national charity with a long tradition of supporting people with visual impairments. Growing up with a dad with a degenerative eye condition, I was very aware of the extra support needs people with visual impairments need. My dads career, his life and in turn my life owe a lot to the RNIB. When my dad was younger they supported him to train as a telephonist helping him to get a job at a bank, giving him a regular income and more importantly a sense of self worth. The training and support he received as a young man has set him up for a 40 career as a minister of religion for the Salvation Army, where despite now having lost all useable sight he runs their helpline offering support and council for people in the most vulnerable situations.
Running is an amazing thing that can be enjoyed by people with or without sight. A few years ago when my dad went completely blind we started doing guided running, offering a him new sense of freedom. As a blind person the opportunity to run is freeing, while Dad at 63 with a few other health conditions has decided to sit this one out, we may try and do one together in future years! (We will see)
The RNIB continue to play an important role in dads life, supporting him with forms and providing free audio books for him to continue his passion of reading.
We would both hugely appreciate whatever people are able to donate
Thank you
Dan
