On Saturday, 10th June 2023 we're competing again in the 'Norfolk Superhero' (http://www.norfolksuperhero.co.uk/) - a Quadrathlon started around 16 years ago by two friends which starts and finishes in Burnham Overy Staithe, near where we live. It’s now developed into a well recognised alternative event on the Quadrathlon calendar in the U.K. (for anyone that does quirky quadrathlons!).
It involves a:
1 mile open water sea swim
4 mile open water sea kayak
45 mile road bike
8 mile forest, beach and marsh run
TOTAL TIME TO COMPLETE: Around 5 hours if you're very fit!
What makes this race slightly different is that you do it as a team of two, and you are only as good as the weakest link because you have to start and finish each section together. Teamwork and support therefore elevate this above just a purely solo effort and adds to what makes it so special as a challenge. Dugan Aylen and Alex Scoles are the team of 2.
Our best time has been 4hrs 43 mins in 2016, when we came 4th overall out of a field of 90 teams. In 2019, our time was 4hrs 50 mins. After 2 years break for Covid19, in 2022, our time was 5hrs 3 mins. This year our time will definitely be slower than all of these due mainly down to the fact we've both had less time to train this year.
THE CHARITY WE SUPPORT THIS YEAR
Every year the event selects a local charity to fund raise for.
The Need:The national cost of living crisis is greatly impacting Norfolk, which has a lower wage economy than the UK average. Norfolk’s predominantly rural population has been hit particularly hard, because of the rising in costs of domestic heating, car fuel, and the lack of affordable food in rural areas. These factors mean that people in Norfolk are struggling to access affordable food.
DONATING
The minimum goal for each team member is to raise at least £350 each (target for us as a team is £700).
We are not far away from the event so was hoping you'd be able to donate whatever you can, as soon as you can!
HOW TO DONATE
It's very simple and just click the link below to donate, and you can donate whatever you like from minimum £2 upwards and you can stay anonymous if you like as well:
We really appreciate absolutely any help and if your ‘Donations’ Piggy Bank has been used up so far this year, no worries and please just wish us luck!!
Thank you very much in advance!!
