Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare genetic disease affecting every organ system in the body. BBS begins to affect the health of a child before birth and continues to affect daily activities throughout life.

Story

By now, I’m sure most of you are aware that Dr. Bob Haws, and his wife Kellie, are leaving the health system effective May 10, 2022.  He is leaving behind an 18 year career with MCHS that started in March 2004 when he joined the health system as a physician in Specialty Pediatrics.

Dr. Haws has been a dedicated pediatric nephrologist, but his true passion lies with the BBS community.  The Clinical Registry Investigating Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (CRIBBS) was founded in June 2014 and is an international registry that examines the health of individuals with BBS.  CRIBBS currently has nearly 700 participants enrolled, from over 40 countries, spread across 6 of the 7 continents!  He has served as the Director for the Treatment Center for Bardet-Biedl Syndrome from its inception in July 2013, now officially recognized as the Center of Excellence for Bardet-Biedl Syndrome since Fall 2019.

Bob and Kellie are two of the most selfless people who are passionate about helping those in need.  We thought, what better way to honor Dr. Haws’ legacy, than to make a donation to the ongoing BBS research efforts that will remain long after his retirement.  To do this, we have started a special donation page through our Foundation BBS Walkathon Just Giving Page.  Our goal is to surprise them with a gift in their honor.

Thank you in advance…your generosity is greatly appreciated!
