Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In the light of the support and encouragement I have received since launching my fundraising appeal and awareness campaign in January 2022, I am continuing to support The Brain Tumour Charity during 2024. My original intention was that from each and every wedding I supported, or event I hosted in 2022, I would donate £22 to a very worthy cause and one extremely close to my heart (In 2023 this donation increased to £23 and in 2024 it is £24). While this continues to be the cornerstone of my campaign, I created this JustGiving** page, in response to the unexpected, varied and very generous donations to my initial 22in22 appeal, made by family, friends, business colleagues, clients and their guests,

Thanks to those very generous donations, along with my own fee contributions, my original £2000 fundraising target has been smashed a number of times and has now passed £11,000. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far! During 2024, I'm aiming to continue to raise as much as I can and also further increase my efforts to generate a greater awareness and understanding of brain tumours* and their effects on both the patient and their loved ones.

So why am I fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity? In April 2020, our eldest grandson Tobias was born in Germany. Within twelve hours of his birth, doctors found he had a brain tumour and just three weeks later, he endured a 12-hour operation, spent two weeks in intensive care and, in total, five weeks in hospital. Thankfully, the tumour was removed and fortunately, now only needs regularly monitoring for any regrowth. Tobi has received incredible treatment, care and support from the local and regional medical teams in Germany. The type of tumour was a ‘one in a million’ and the doctors had never seen one of its type this early on in a baby’s life. Nearly three years on, thanks to that medical care and the love and devotion of his parents, Sophie and Sam, he is doing well and is growing up to be a happy and determined little boy. However, they, along with family and friends, are well aware that there will likely be a number of hurdles that will need to be managed.

Any donation you might decide to make, having read this story, would be much appreciated. When it comes to brain tumours, a cure really can’t wait.

THANK YOU.

*More than 88,000 people of all ages in the UK are currently living with a brain tumour, but just 3.2% of national cancer research funding is spent on the disease. Brain tumours continue to be the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40. (Data from The Brain Tumour Charity).
