Story
Bob Crane is celebrating his 80th birthday by walking every single street in our town of Portishead to raise vital funds to support RNLI Portishead's volunteer lifeboat crew. We reckon it's about 200 miles. But it might be more. A lot more. And he's only got until 17th July to do it.
Please donate here to show your support and to help Bob save lives at sea.
Bob Crane was our Lifeboat Operations Manager for as long as most of us can remember. The LOM is a critical role, as it is he (or she) who is responsible for keeping the lifeboat station operational, for managing our volunteer crew and for deciding if the lifeboat can launch.
Bob also shepherded us through the process from being an independent lifeboat station to becoming a part of the RNLI. And he refused to retire until the job was done. Only then did he agree to hang up his wellies and hand over the reins.
It's Bob's 80th birthday on 17th July and, between now and then, he's going to walk every single street, road, alley, track and lane in our lovely town of Portishead in Somerset, UK. We think it might be about 200 miles. But we're really not sure how far it is. And we don't think anyone's done it before.
Bob's going to be walking a couple of days each week, covering a section of the town each time. And he's going to be visiting local attractions and landmarks on his way. He's also taking a very special RNLI guest with him on his travels.
So please donate here to help Bob in his efforts to support our volunteer lifeboat crew and to save lives at sea. And if you see him on his travels, do give him a wave. And perhaps also a drink and a biscuit. We'll update you regularly on his progress here and on the RNLI Portishead Facebook page.
