Downslink Ultra
In its 6th year, the Downslink Ultra is a 38 mile Ultra point to point race
from St Martha’s Hill, Surrey to Shoreham- by-Sea, West Sussex using the Downslink footpath and bridleway. The trail crosses the Low Weald and mostly follows two former railway lines. It’s a long run.
National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society & Me
National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society is particularly apposite to myself as I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a few years ago. It can be a debilitating and painful condition. RA is a type of disease known as an autoimmune condition. This means that your body’s immune system becomes too active, and mistakenly attacks the lining of your joints (the synovial lining). This causes inflammation, which leads to symptoms such as pain and stiffness.
If RA is not treated or is inadequately treated, it can cause irreversible damage to joints and lead to disability. But today, the management of RA is very good, far better than it was in years gone by. Although there is no cure, most people diagnosed today can expect to lead pretty full and active lives once the disease is under control.
As for me, I’ve been from using mobility scooters to running a marathon so effective treatment can make a real difference
