We fund life changing research to change the future of spinal cord injury

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Not everyone will know but in real life I have been a keen biker for 34 years, and I have been involved with motorcycle training as an IAM observer.

On Saturday June 12th. at 09:00 hrs, along with 17 fellow members of the Kent Advanced Motocyclists Group, I will be setting off from Brands Hatch on a tour of the UK to promote IAM motorcycle training and to raise money for two tremendously worthwhile charities, Spinal Research and the BBC Children in Need.

Spinal Research is the UK's leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck. Every year more than 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital scientific research. Thanks to such pioneering work paralysis can now be treated and we stand on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of many paralysed people.             This is a cause which should be close to us all, since injuries to the spine may be sustained to the widest spectrum of people, young and old, where injuries may be sustained at work, in road traffic accidents, falls and domestic accidents, sports, and activities such as skiing, horse riding and motorcycling.

The BBC Children in Need is a fantastic charity well known to us all through the TV coverage every year, but active all through the year where every penny raised goes to support organisations and groups to make positive changes to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Their vision is a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential.                                                                                                                  Pudsey Bear will be at Brands to see us off !

The run will mark the 30th. anniversary of the formation of the KAMG, the first dedicated motorcycle group to be adopted by the Institute of Advanced Motorists.  The aim of the group is to train and encourage riders to improve their skills and to get more enjoyment from their motorcycling with greater safety.  There are now more than 90 groups throughout the UK and it is intended that we shall join friends and representatives from all of the groups as we visit each of the 7 IAM regions throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, hopefully with media attention to promote the "Be a Better Rider" campaign and to collect for our chosen charities.  We return to Brands Hatch on Saturday June 19th.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.                                                                                                                Any contribution, however small would be greatly appreciated and will be of real help to Spinal Research and Children in Need.

Thanks again.                                                                                                                                                                               All the very best,

Bob
