Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June/July I will be cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats - over 1,000 miles and 69,000 ft of ascent. I am hoping to raise funds for the Tree Aid charity.
TREE AID was established as a charity in 1987 by a group of foresters in response to the famine in Africa, brought to public attention by Band Aid and Live Aid.
They wanted to provide a long term solution once the emergency relief efforts ended. They believed that trees could significantly reduce the vulnerability of communities in rural Africa's drylands to drought and famine in the future.
TREE AID'S current strategy expands on the original concept, focusing on forest management and income, food and medicines from trees.
Trees mean life and especially in times of drought, they provide a more sustainable source of food, medicine and shelter when arable crops are more vulnerable and prone to failure.
TREE AID provides assistance and support in development of tree nurseries, woodland management (new and existing), shelter belts, tree species to provide food/medicine and the marketing of tree products so as to generate income for the very poorest of the world's people.
My father John Fletcher was one of the founders of the charity and served as it's President until 2007. He is still very much involved with Tree Aid.
I hope you can donate and help this organisation to continue its work.
