Story
"My name is Seamus. I am an old English sheepdog. I was rescued five years ago by my best friend and co-worker, Bob. Bob and I met when I was just 1 year old. My former family surrendered me to the Monadnock Region Humane Society. I remember being afraid and confused and wanted desperately to feel safe and loved.
Bob and I came up with a plan. We wanted to pay it forward. I was "rescued" and wanted to somehow rescue children who felt lost or dealt with trauma or victimization. I studied hard and became a therapy dog.
I go to work every day with Bob. I get to meet children who come to us looking for help. My job description is a little different than Bob's. I just listen. I let each child hold me, I get to sit in a lot of laps, I get hugs from even the most scared and upset children. Usually, by the time they leave, we both feel a lot better. This year, Bob said we will have met almost 200 new children just from Cheshire County. "
Since 2007 the Monadnock Region Child Advocacy Center (MRCAC) has provided child forensic interview services to Cheshire County law enforcement departments, the Cheshire County Attorney's Office, and DCYF Keene District Office. As a program of the Granite State Children's Alliance, MRCAC is administered by a non-profit corporation, and we rely on outside funding and donations to meet the cost of operations.
Since 2016 local Cheshire County Law Enforcement agencies, led by the Keene and Marlborough Police Departments, have helped MRCAC raise crucial operation funds by allowing their Officers to participate in the annual Beards for Bucks Fundraiser. MRCAC is grateful to the Police Department Chiefs that permit their officers to participate in Beards for Bucks, and we are also grateful for all of the individual officers who have participated in this fundraiser.
