We support homeless LGBTQ+ young people to ensure they're safe and supported

Story

We are doing a bike ride past London landmarks to raise money for two charities in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Alan Ramsay. For the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead where he spent his last days and the Albert Kennedy Trust (akt), a charity that combines two things Alan was passionate about – LGBTQ+ issues and homelessness.

He was a loved and respected charge nurse at the Bloomsbury Clinic, Mortimer Market Centre, where he is remembered as a supportive manager with a unique and dry sense of humour. He loved his job and the work he did with our patients and he made many close friends here.

Outside work, he immersed himself in culture, he was a member of the Tate and the British Museum, had an eclectic taste in music and was an avid reader. He loved the films of John Waters and discussing the music of Patti Smith, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground and many others. He exchanged letters with William Burroughs and Moe Tucker and adored Divine.

He had a soft spot for animals and lived with cats for most of his life and loved his Russian Blue, Moomoo, who is known for her own sassy and eccentric personality!

We miss Alan terribly and would appreciate any donation you can make to either of the charities.

Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports. We proudly offer safe homes and better futures for LGBTQ+ people aged 16-25.
